Abstract
Some individuals believe that opposites attract. However, in order to have a longterm relationship individuals tend to marry someone who is similar to them. I propose that females tend to select partners who are similar to themselves. Previous studies have shown that individuals do tend to select partners who are similar in age, ethnic
background, religion, socioeconomic status, psychological characteristics and personality
characteristics. In this study the data supports previous studies. However, this study also
examines dating an4 how dating plays a role in how fem.ales select their partners for
long-term relationships. This study also investigates how gender differences play a role in selecting a partner for a long-term relationship. The results for this study confirm that females do select partners who are similar to themselves.
