Abstract

Certain responsibilities are necessary to uphold to perform the job tasks efficiently with a career in law enforcement. Officers need to be able to maintain health and wellness to keep up with the demands of the job. A large component of this is to keep up with physical health to perform multiple tasks while on duty that might require strength and endurance. Upon entering the police force officers given a physical fitness assessment but after that assessment, there are no enforced standards of physical fitness among police stations. This study is aimed at understanding the current physical standards of police officers through a survey. The survey was given to various officers in the central Texas region and consisted of 20 questions aimed at the officers' physical activity and their personal beliefs about implementing health and wellness programs. The examinations and recommendations for health and wellness programs for police officers are discussed.
