Digital Preservation 101: First Steps (and Next Steps), Part 1 and 2

Abstract

ATALM (Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums) members engage in a variety of digital projects, creating and digitizing language recordings, oral histories, community archives, social media, and online materials. To ensure preservation and future access to these unique and invaluable items, this short lab will engage the group in active learning, following the Library of Congress Digital Preservation Outreach and Education model. Collectively and individually, the group will learn and begin work on six components (Identify, Select, Manage, Store, Protect, and Provide Access) of digital preservation for their own collections. Attendees will leave with the beginnings of a digital preservation program, and concrete actions to continue this work.
