Abstract
Portrayal of Race in the Mass Media: Impact on the First Integrated Class of a Southern High School is investigating how mass media portrayals of race and issues influenced a rural Mississippi town in 1970, and over the course of the next 35 years. The project funded through REP allowed the PI to collect much, but not all, of the necessary materials required for successful completion of the project. In order to complete the research, more time and funding are needed, particularly time. The PI will apply for developmental leave in '08 to complete the project and is applying for an NEH Fellowship for funding.
