Abstract
This review of literature includes an examination of the extent that field trips and technology use promoted first person interaction (FPI) between social studies students and presented material. FPI experiences enabled student creation of meaningful connections between their environment, direct experiences, conceptual themes, and factual material. Social studies curriculum
would benefit from more consistent use of field trips and
supplemental technologies that promote FPI. Research is still needed to compare the effects of FPI instruction with traditional methods.
