Impact of Technology Integration on Academic Performance of Texas School Children
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact technology integration in public schools has on the academic performance of public school students. Method: Data for this study were obtained from the Texas Education Agency. The study uses data measuring the level of technology integration in over 6,654 Texas public school campuses as well as TAKS scores of 4th, 8th, and 11th graders in the subject areas of reading, math, and science. Four areas of technology integration are identified and examined for their possible impact on the academic performance of public school students. A multiple regression analysis was used to assess the impact of the four areas of technology integration on academic performance. Results: The results show that overall the integration of technology in the classroom impacts the academic performance of students in the subject areas reading, math, and science. Conclusion: This research study provides valuable information regarding the necessity of integrating technology into public schools. While this field of research is still in its infancy, this study conveys the impact technology has on academic performance and the importance of further research in examining its effects.
