dc.description.abstractThis research examined students’ perceptions of School Resource Officers (SROs). The researcher administered a web-based survey among university students between the ages of 18 and 20 by asking them to recall their memories regarding SROs during high school years. Among the 12 independent variables including three control variables in multivariate linear regression analysis, only one variable of student first impression of SRO was detected to have a positive and statistically significant relationship with students’ perceptions of SROs. The other experiential factors, such as frequency of student-SRO communication, were found to have statistically significant relationships with students’ perceptions of SROs in bivariate analyses, while only some of the contextual factors showed such relationships with students’ perceptions of SROs in bivariate analyses. With the detected findings, the ways of improving students’ perceptions of SROs, such as making better students’ first impressions of SROs, are discussed for maintaining school safety and building positive student-SRO relationship.
