Abstract
This paper is part of a panel discussion of Christopher Ansell’s 2011 book Pragmatist Democracy at the Public Administration Theory Network annual conference. It presents Pat Shields’s reflections on the book, a short history (why she was attracted to pragmatism in the first place), some tidbits on the founders of pragmatism and the significance of Ansell’s Pragmatist Democracy for contemporary PA theory and practice.
