dc.description.abstract | The formal study of massage first appears in the early writings of Chinese medicine, which evolve from the Tao. This thesis draws upon both my experiences as a massage therapist, and the current research that examines the therapeutic benefits of massage. While considerable evidence for the efficacy of massage has been gathered using the research techniques of Western science, I also will demonstrate how understanding massage in terms of the Tao can help to create a comprehensive appreciate for the benefits of massage. | |
