dc.description.abstractPatient responses to the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) for 2005, 2006, and 2007 were analyzed to determine if a pattern of responses correlated with overall acute care hospital ratings. Although a statistically significant difference was noted between major teaching hospitals, minor teaching hospitals, and non-teaching hospitals, there was no practical significance observed when other variables were added. Pain control and nurse interaction with patients were the variables found to be most closely correlated with overall hospital ratings.
