dc.description.abstract | This study explored the lived experiences of Latino migrant youth who were later able to achieve high levels of academic success. Through the use of narrative case studies, I examined which factors allowed these individuals to overcome substantial barriers to education to attain high levels of academic achievement. I was able to find that these students had an abnormally high level of internal drive coupled with a strong family push. There were consistent elements of “college is the only means of escape” from their difficult lives. This push came from both within and from family. I have concluded with a number of recommendations for how this demographic can be encouraged and supported in their academic careers. | |
