With increasing usage of wireless devices, security issues have become a major challenge for wireless network. In order to solve security defects of the 802.11 standard, the 802.1X authentication standard is adapted to provide additional security. This thesis aims at studying and analyzing 802.1X protocols used to provide security. It includes detailed explanations of various EAP authentication methods which are used by 802.1X, their functionalities and weaknesses, in terms of different security attacks. This paper also describes the advantages and design of an authentication simulator. Then we propose a new EAP authentication method based on the 802.1 X protocol and simulate the authentication process based on the simulator.
