Despite the bland and commercial white wash imposed by its current media giants, America is exquisitely unique in several ways. Among them is the impact that the American folk song has had upon political discourse. A melting pot of musical cultures birthed a fire for revolution that is best carried out with a guitar. In a land of free speech, the one with the guitar is king. This thesis aims to detail some of the aspects of protest music which have made it such a powerful tool. It is accompanied by an album by the same title as this paper and by the same artist as the author. The work is intended to re-spark a revolution, or at least a discussion, in face of the horrendous political collapse of the once great republic.
