dc.description.abstract | In a changing working environment, public administrators ascertain ways to improve leadership skills, update programs, allocate or cut resources, and balance budgets. Most organizations require a plan to accomplish these tasks on a day-to-day basis and promote the organization's services effectively. This research explores strategic planning as a tool to promote a professional organization's mission, vision and goals. Purpose: This applied research project focuses on creating a preliminary strategic plan for the Central Texas Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (CenTex ASPA) by exploring the existing strategic plan of the National American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). Method: Create a strategic planning task force of officers and council members of CenTex ASPA to develop a strategic plan. The strategic planning task force met regularly and corresponds via email with one another to brainstorm, exchange ideas, with the goal of reaching consensus in developing the strategic plan for the future of the organization. Findings: Although the strategic planning process is not complete, the strategic planning task force is committed to complete the process with the guidance of the president of the Chapter. The president recommends further scheduled meetings to develop and clarify the mission, vision and goals for the organization. For now, CenTex ASPA continues to evolve with the help of a preliminary strategic plan. | |
