dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to inform the general education teacher about how to meet the needs of special education students in the mainstream classroom. The general education teacher will see varying disabilities throughout their teaching career. It is vital to be properly educated on how to accommodate these students. This thesis serves as a guidebook informing teachers of characteristics, tendencies, and strategies to meet the needs of these students while in the mainstream classroom. This thesis centers around four of the most common disabilities: Down syndrome, ADHD, autism, and speech and language disorders. This work covers the eligibility process for special education services, the importance of early intervention, parental involvement, and teaching theories and practices. | |
