dc.description.abstract | The role of workers in occupations that require high levels of creative thinking and problem solving on metropolitan area growth in the U.S. is explored. Richard Florida (2002) labeled workers in these occupations as the creative class, and hypothesizes that they play a crucial role in growth of metropolitan areas over time. A formal statistical examination of the impact of employment in creative class occupations on population growth in a cross-section of 367 US metropolitan areas over the period 2005 to 2010 is undertaken in this thesis. | |
