Abstract
The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether or not and, if so, what type of accommodations and/or programs/services were provided for identified learning disabled (ILD) students in Texas community colleges registered with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). An investigator-developed a survey was pilot tested and finalized before being mailed to 70 community colleges throughout Texas. Forty-six completed surveys were returned.
All the responding campuses indicated that they had ILD students enrolled and used a variety of media to inform ILD students of accommodations and programs/services available on and off campus. The majority of respondents offered a wide variety of accommodations, trained faculty on how to provide accommodations for ILD students, and informed faculty of individual students' needs. It was concluded that the provision of accommodations and programs/services for ILD students in Texas community colleges is a standard practice.
