Abstract

The enantioseparations of Δ9-THC and Δ8-THC on amylose tris dimethylphenylcarbamate CSP was investigated using mobile phases containing 1-3% methanol with 1-7% IPA in n-heptane. A factorial design was used to study the main and interaction effects of these alcohols as measured by the retention time, selectivity, and resolution of each pair of enantiomers, as well as the critical pair: (+)-Δ9-THC and (-)-Δ8-THC. Methanol did not significantly affect the enantioseparation of the critical pair, while the interaction effect was significant in all cases. An elution order reversal for Δ8-THC was noted at 1% IPA with 2-3% methanol, and excluding these conditions, Δ9-THC resolution was greater than 5.0 in all other cases.
