dc.description.abstract | This paper explores the influences of Virginia Woolf on Maria Luisa Puga, a Mexican writer (1944-2004). It uses the metaphor of weaving to explain how both writers manage to create patterned and clothlike texts which show continuities but also move between uncertainty and affirmation, joy and despair. It discusses the life below the surface that is present in the works of both authors and explains how Puga is prevented from depicting her reality in the clear, almost hyperesthetic way Woolf does because in the post-colonial worlds she writes about institutional violence and oppression have obscured the truth. | |
